1 <br /> City of Elk River <br /> City of <br /> Investigative Assistant <br /> ElEk <br /> River Position Description <br /> Department: Immediate Supervisor: <br /> Police Adult Detective Sergeant <br /> Pay Grade: FLSA Status: Last Updated: (date) <br /> 5N Non-Exempt 12/2019 <br /> Positions Supervised: <br /> N/A <br /> Position Summary <br /> The Investigative Assistant works under the direct supervision of the Adult Detective Sergeant. <br /> Provides investigative, administrative, clerical, and transcription support to the police department <br /> with an emphasis on the detective unit. <br /> Essential Functions <br /> 1. Prepares cases and legal documents for the purpose of requesting charges for felony,gross <br /> misdemeanor, and misdemeanor level offenses. <br /> A. Completes case file assemblies (CFA) for submittal to the County or City Attorney's <br /> Office. <br /> B. Submits CFAs through eCharging. <br /> C. Processes and files eCharging search warrants. <br /> D. Prepares and submits subpoena requests to the County or City Attorney's Office. <br /> E. Runs criminal history checks as requested and/or for inclusion with case <br /> submissions. <br /> 2. Gathers and disseminates data and intelligence. <br /> A. Prepares and disseminates crime alerts through various systems (i.e. Regional <br /> Criminal Tracking and Analysis Group (RCTAG),Tri-County alert system), as well <br /> as monitors those systems for pertinent data. <br /> B. Conducts searches within the Thomson Reuters CLEAR system and other <br /> intelligence databases at the request of the assigned detective. <br /> C. Conducts searches within, and entries into the Automated Pawn System (APS). <br /> D. Searches various web-based sites for data to support investigations. <br /> E. Inputs data in the ATF e-trace website. <br /> F. Provides analytical,physical, and/or coordination assistance during major case <br /> investigations. <br /> G. Gathers reports from, and/or disseminates reports to, other law enforcement <br /> agencies or partner disciplines. <br /> 3. Performs property and evidence duties. <br /> A. Intakes and processes property and evidence. <br /> B. Transports evidence to and from the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) <br /> laboratory or Midwest Regional Forensics Laboratory (MRFL). <br /> C. Completes,processes, and receives paperwork and lab reports related to evidence <br /> submitted to a laboratory. <br /> D. Responds to requests for property/evidence release and requests from attorneys for <br /> discovery. <br /> Page 1 <br />
