<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />June 3, 1940 <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Village Council was held at the Municipal Bldg Monday June 3, 1040 at 8 <br />o’clock P.M. <br /> <br />Members present: <br /> M.C. Tesch, Pres.; Geo Cornelius and Frank Nickerson, Trustees; Wm H Greupner, <br />Clerk <br /> <br /> The minutes of the last meetings were read and approved. <br /> <br />J. Mitchell a W.P.A. representative was present and spoke about a recreation program in Elk River. <br />He suggested the Village appoint a committee of 5 or 6 to live out a program and that the Village <br />sponsor the same and share the expenses, which would not be very much. It was decided tha the <br />Community Club, Commercial Club, Legion, Legion Auxiliary and the School board submit four <br />names and the Council would pick out one from each group to act on this committee. <br /> <br />L.D. Bailey was present and asked if the Council would appropriate some money for the Red Cross. <br />He was told that Frank White Village Attorney would have to be consulted with before any action <br />could be taken. <br /> <br />Jimmy Lero, relief client was allowed $5.00 for groceries and $6.00 for rent. <br /> <br />Andy Madson put in a complaint about the numerous dogs running at large in Elk River. He was <br />told to report this matter to Chas Nelson <br /> <br />A motion was made by Wm Greupner seconded by Frank Nickerson to allow the So. Dak. <br />Childrens Home Society $60.00 for board and room and $7.50 for (can’t read) for Mrs. Eva <br />Hemmings child. <br /> <br />A motion by Frank Nickerson seconded by Wm Greupner to buy 100 ft of 2 ½ in hose from H.R. <br />Caly. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Geo Cornelius seconded by Frank Nickerson to grand Arthur Leger an on <br />and off sale non intoxicating malt liquor license for one year. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Wm Greupner seconded by Geo Cornelius to grant Harry Dow a building <br />permit for a Garage. <br /> <br />A motion was made by Frank Nickerson seconded by Geo Cornelius to allow the following bills. <br /> <br />E.R. Power and Lt Co. Light and Power $252.98 <br />N.W. Bell Tele Co Tele rent $8.55 <br />Harold Keays Labor $15.00 <br />Dan Hjerpe Police duty $7.00 <br />Star News Supplies $13.55 <br /> <br />
