SECTION 02335-SUBGRADE PREPARATION <br /> PART 1-- GENERAL <br /> 1.1 SUMMARY <br /> A. This section covers the furnishing of all labor, materials,tools,equipment and performance of all work and <br /> services necessary or incidental to the subgrade preparation as indicated on the drawings or as specified <br /> herein. <br /> 1.2 METHOD OF MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT <br /> A. Measurement and compensation for the following items shall be paid according to the referenced <br /> specification or as modified below: <br /> 1. No direct payment shall be made for subgrade preparation. Costs shall be included in the unit prices <br /> bid for the various excavation items. <br /> 2. No exception to the referenced specification is made. <br /> B. The furnishing and installing of specific items and/or the performance of work under certain circumstances <br /> shall not be individually paid in the absence of a specific bid item for the work. The costs shall be included <br /> in the unit price bid for the various excavation items.Such items of work include but are not limited to: <br /> 1. Drying and adding water to the subgrade. <br /> 2. Subgrade excavation,furnishing stabilizing aggregate,geotextile fabric installation,compaction, <br /> regrading and/or other efforts necessary to repair the subgrade after satisfying the rolling test and <br /> failing to protect the integrity of the subgrade. <br /> 1.3 SPECIFICATION REFERENCES <br /> A. MnDOT 2112 shall apply to the subgrade preparation,except as modified herein. <br /> B. Unless noted otherwise,the provisions in this section are in addition to the referenced specification. <br /> PART 2-- PRODUCTS <br /> 2.1 NO EXCEPTION TO THE REFERENCED SPECIFICATION IS MADE. <br /> PART 3-- EXECUTION <br /> 3.1 CONSTRUCTION REQUIREMENTS <br /> A. At the end of each day,and prior to the placement of aggregate base,the Contractor shall eliminate surface <br /> indentations, including those caused by sheeps foot rollers and tractor cletes,and roll the surface with a <br /> steel wheel or rubber tired roller. <br /> B. The Contractor shall disc,scarify,shape and compact the street subgrade or existing base,adding water or <br /> drying as may be necessary to give uniform and desired density. <br /> C. If the subgrade is unstable and the instability is due to excessive moisture,the subgrade shall be scarified <br /> and dried over a reasonable time period. When the material has reached acceptable moisture limits,the <br /> material shall be returned to the roadbed and compacted into place to the proper elevation. The roadbed <br /> will once again be test rolled. If the material continues to be unstable,the Engineer may authorize the <br /> removal of the undesirable material as subgrade excavation. <br /> D. Once the subgrade has been test rolled and accepted by the Engineer, no traffic or construction equipment <br /> shall be permitted to operate directly on the subgrade without the prior approval of the Engineer. All <br /> equipment shall be restricted to operating only in areas where the aggregate base has been installed to its <br /> full design depth.
