Tim Walz. <br />Preserving source water quality requires engagement from many sectors, and Elk River <br />Municipal Utilities has been a trusted partner in implementation, according to Minnesota <br />Rural Water Association officials. <br />The utility has collaborated with other departments and outside agencies on many <br />activities, such as developing a city groundwater budget and implementing water <br />conservation initiatives. The utility also participates in ongoing efforts to locate and seal <br />abandoned wells, which can serve as pathways for contaminants to enter groundwater. <br />May 5-11 was Drinking Water Week, an opportunity for both water professionals and the <br />communities they serve to join in recognizing the vital role water plays in our daily lives. In <br />May, the health department and rural water association will recognize three organizations <br />— including Elk River Municipal Utilities — for their exceptional commitment to protecting <br />source water. <br />El <br />
