95 City of Elk River - Parks and Recreation Master Plan Appendix: Elk River Public Arts <br />Goals and Strategies for Public Art in Elk River <br />The goals outlined below represent the input from local artists and arts groups in Elk River. They are <br />intentionally open ended so as to be flexible as the city further develops its public art program. Strategies are <br />steps the city or others may undertake to achieve the goals outlined. <br />Goal: Public art should represent the community and help create a “sense of place” <br />Strategies: <br />• Utilize local artists whenever appropriate. <br />• Incorporate local materials when appropriate. <br />• Look to characteristics of Elk River for inspiration. <br />• Incorporate art into the infrastructure of Elk River. <br />• Set aside a percentage of any infrastructure project for the incorporation of public art. <br />• Explore alternative infrastructure (rain gardens, unique bridges, streetscapes, etc.) that can incorporate <br />creative elements. <br />• Facilitate and streamline the process for temporary art installations such as “pop-up” shops, performances, <br />and events. <br />Goal: Public art should be leveraged for positive economic benefit and development <br />Strategies: <br />• Promote Elk River arts outside of the city. <br />• Facilitate events to attract people to downtown. <br />• Coordinate with local businesses. <br />• Facilitate events and programs for the sale of art. <br />• Develop and promote partnerships with corporate patrons and artists.
