SECTION 02320-TRENCH EXCAVATION,BEDDING AND BACKFILL <br /> PART 1-- GENERAL <br /> 1.1 SUMMARY <br /> A. This section covers the furnishing of all labor, materials,tools,equipment and performances of all work and <br /> services necessary or incidental to maintenance of utility service,trench excavation, bedding and backfill <br /> necessary for the construction of underground utilities and structures,as indicated on the drawings or as <br /> specified herein. <br /> 1.2 DEFINITIONS <br /> A. Excess Material-Material that is not needed to complete the earthwork balance. <br /> B. Suitable Material-Sand,silty sand or low plasticity clay soils with no organic content. The Engineer shall <br /> make the final determination as to what material will be considered suitable. <br /> C. Unsuitable Material-Soil with organic content including topsoil,swamp deposits, peat, muck,or other <br /> material deemed by the Engineer to be unsuitable for fill or embankment construction. <br /> D. Flexible Pipe Materials—For the purposes of this specification section,flexible pipe materials shall include <br /> the following: <br /> 1. Polyvinyl chloride(PVC) pipe—solid wall and profile wall pipe. <br /> 2. Polypropylene profile wall pipe. <br /> 3. High density polyethylene pipe—solid wall and profile wall pipe. <br /> 4. Corrugated steel or aluminum pipe. <br /> 5. Centrifugally cast,glass-fiber-reinforced, polymer mortar(CCFRPM) pipe. <br /> E. Rigid Pipe Materials—For the purposes of this specification section, rigid pipe materials shall include the <br /> following: <br /> 1. Reinforced concrete pipe. <br /> 2. Reinforced concrete box culverts. <br /> 3. Ductile iron pipe. <br /> 1.3 METHOD OF MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT <br /> A. Measurement and compensation for the following items shall be paid according to the referenced <br /> specification or as modified below: <br /> 1. Items specifically identified in the Schedule of Unit Prices will be compensated in accordance with the <br /> description of measurement and payment contained in the section applicable to the individual item. <br /> Otherwise, no direct compensation shall be granted for compliance with the provisions contained <br /> herein. <br /> B. The furnishing and installing of specific items and/or the performance of work under certain circumstances <br /> shall not be individually paid in the absence of a specific bid item for the work. The costs shall be included <br /> in the unit price bid for the individual pipeline items associated with the stated specific item or work effort. <br /> Such items of work include but are not limited to: <br /> 1. Interference with other above and underground structures and utilities. <br /> 2. The removal and restoration,or protection of existing structures and utilities that are shown on the <br /> plans and for which there is no bid item for removing and restoring,or working around the utility. <br /> 3. Unless separately itemized in the Schedule of Unit Prices,any dewatering necessary for construction. <br /> 4.
