Proclamation Designating May 21 , 2019 as Elk River High School ProStart Championship Day WHEREAS, the Hospitality Minnesota Education Foundation and Sysco Minnesota sponsor the Minnesota ProStart Invitational, the State Tournament for high school culinary and management teams; and WHEREAS, ProStart educational curriculum combines classroom instruction with mentored work experience to teach students management and culinary skills for careers in the restaurant and food service industry; and WHEREAS, culinary teams develop a unique menu for a three-course meal, complete with recipes and food costs, and prepare that meal in 60 minutes; and WHEREAS, they are evaluated on their menu, degree of difficulty, food safety, cooking procedures, sanitation, knife skills, food costing, teamwork, taste, and presentation of their meal; and WHEREAS, management teams create a restaurant concept that focuses on operations, safety and sanitation, critical thinking,interior design, and floor plan; and WHEREAS, Elk River High School has a proud tradition of exceptional culinary and management teams under the leadership of Monique Sabby and mentor Rick Guntzel; and WHEREAS, the 2019 Elk River High School culinary team placed first in the culinary competition for their ninth state title and the management team placed first in the management competition for their first state title since 2007; and WHEREAS, as state champions,both teams qualified for the National ProStart Invitational in Washington DC; and WHEREAS, the Elk River High School ProStart team brought tremendous community pride and created a positive image for the City of Elk River. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I,John J. Dietz,Mayor of Elk River, do hereby proclaim May 21, 2019, as Elk River High School ProStart Championship Day in the City of Elk River,Minnesota.
