<br /> <br /> <br />Item 8.3.A. <br /> <br />MEMORAiNDUM <br /> <br />TO: Mayor and Council <br /> <br />FROM: Bill Maertz, Director of Par~s and Recreation <br /> <br />DATE: June 2, 2005 <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Amend 2005 Parks Capital ~mprovement Budget in Order to <br />Help Fund the Renovation of Handke Stadium <br /> <br />Item <br />The Elk River Rotary Club has requested that the Parks and Recreation Commission <br />consider a request to participate financially in the! final phase of renovation of Handke <br />Stadium. <br /> <br />Summary <br />The Elk River Rotary Club has been working on !the restoration of Handke Stadium. The <br />majority of the work is complete, and Rotary's gqal is to complete the project this summer. <br />The estimated cost of the fmal phase is $50,000. '(['he Rotary is requesting the Park and <br />Recreation Commission consider using $10,000 ~f park dedication funds to assist with this <br />project. <br /> <br />The City of Elk River has participated fmanciallYiin this project and the past, and there is <br />precedent in using park dedication funds on schqol district property. The lights installed at <br />Handke in the winter of 2004/2005 were paid fot with park dedication funds. The Parks and <br />Recreation Department operates the warming horuse and maintains the rinks, which received <br />over 6,000 visits last year. <br /> <br />Staff believes that Handke Stadium is a valuable tecreation resource to the community and <br />that park dedication funds would be well spent or the completion of the renovation <br /> <br />Parks and Recreation Commission Recomm~ndation <br />At the May 11, 2005 Parks and Recreation Coffi$ssion meeting, the Parks and Recreation <br />Commission voted to recommend that the City Council amend the 2005 parks capital <br />improvement budget by an additional $10,000, in! order to help fund the renovation of <br />Handke Stadium. . <br /> <br />Action Requested . <br />Amend the 2005 parks capital improvement budget by an additional $10,000, in order to <br />help fund the renovation of Handke Stadium. <br />
