Consensus of the Commission was to raise the civil penalty amount to $250 instead of the proposed $50. Daryl Thompson moved to approve the proposed meter tampering ordinance for City Council review and consideration. Jerry Gumphrey seconded the motion. Motion carried 3-0. 5.7 The Minnesota Municipal Utilities Association 2010 System Innovation Award ERMU has won the System Innovation Award from MMUA. The award was presented to ERMU "in recognition for its leadership and innovation in customer service, energy efficiency, renewable energy or technology use, which has improved service to its community and enhanced public power's prestige." This award really comes to ERMU because of our excellent electrical system reliability and our progressive resource conservation programs. Vance Zehringer and his contribution to ERMU, Energy City, and our community was a significant factor in our achievements that led to receiving this award. 6.1 Staff Updates Troy Adams talked about his recent trip to North Dakota to tour Great River Energy's Coal Creek Station, DC Convertor Station, and the Falkirk Mine with representatives of GRE and Connexus. John Dietz voiced his concerns to Theresa Slominski regarding the customer dissatisfaction on the credit card fees. Discussion followed regarding the transaction fees and the cost to ERMU if the fees were absorbed. John Dietz directed Theresa Slominski to look into the fees and bring back to Commission for further discussion. A major outage occurred on Sunday, September 12th, caused by a squirrel. The call center was flooded with calls and a lot of customers were lost in the phone system. Theresa Slominski informed the Commission that she is looking into an automated software system and other alternatives but does not have all the information needed at this time and will bring back for discussion at a future meeting. David Berg talked about working one on one with the top 20 water users to help lower their water usage. Lori Johnson introduced Justin Femnte, the new City Engineer. Justin Femnte has been assisting David Berg with the well projects. 6.2 Set Date for Next Meeting The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Elk River Municipal Utilities Commission will be Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 3:30 p.m.
