When Duran was unable to attend the training due to <br />Budget & <br />PHOENIX - Creative Networks, LLC, will pay $57,500 and furnish other relief to settle a <br />Performance <br />disability discrimination lawsuit filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission <br />Enforcement & <br />(EEOC), the agency announced today. Creative Networks provides services to disabled <br />Litigation <br />clients and is a Phoenix -based subsidiary of ResCare, Inc. <br />Initiatives <br />In its suit, the EEOC charged that Creative Networks violated federal law by adhering to a <br />Task Forces <br />rigid policy of denying deaf and hearing-impaired applicants' requests for American Sign <br />Interagency <br />Language (ASL) interpreting services costing more than $200 to complete its pre - <br />Programs <br />employment orientation and training. The EEOC accused Creative Networks of <br />Publications <br />discriminating against Rochelle Duran, a deaf applicant, by denying her request for ASL <br />Statistics <br />interpreting services necessary to complete the company's mandatory 24-hour pre - <br />employment orientation and training program. <br />Outreach & <br />Education <br />Instead, the EEOC said, Creative Networks offered Duran a mere $200 towards the cost of <br />Legislative Affairs <br />24 hours of ASL interpreting services, even though the company knew that the actual cost <br />FOIA <br />would far exceed this arbitrary limit. Creative Networks admitted it had sufficient resources to <br />Privacy <br />afford the interpretation services. When Duran was unable to attend the training due to <br />Creative Networks' refusal to provide her with a reasonable accommodation, the company <br />Doing Business with <br />EEOC <br />then declined to hire her. <br />Jobs & Internships Last year, Judge David Alan Ezra of the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona held as <br />EEOC History a matter of law that Creative Networks failed to accommodate and failed to hire Duran <br />Office of Inspector <br />because of her disability in violation of the ADA. (EEOC v. Creative Networks L.L.C., 09 -CV - <br />General 02023, D.
