Ms. Canter reported <br /> that$42,244 worth of fines was waived for 3,745 patrons in the region <br /> and$1,871 in fines was waived for 252 people in Elk River. It was noted <br /> the goal of this promotion was to get people back into the library. Staff <br /> was asked to attempt to renew accounts and 113 didn't renew. Fines all <br /> the way back to 1995 were waived and included 250 kids. Ms. Schake <br /> stated she had a person come in who had held onto his book for a very <br /> long time. Ms. Canter stated one family had almost$1,000 in fees waived. <br /> 5.8 Library Services Coordinator Report <br /> ■ Ms. Schake presented her staff report. She noted the following: <br /> Summer reading program was a success with approximately 200 <br /> participants over last year's numbers. Due to an anonymous donor they <br /> were able to give away about 500 books. This summer library staff <br /> participated at the farmers market and did the Brain Games program at <br /> Guardian Angels. Staff was recently contacted by the new Elk River <br /> Senior Living Facility. The $1,000 mini grant mentioned in Ms. Canter's <br /> report will be spent in the STEM area. There is great participation in <br /> those areas. Legos and snap circuit hours are STEM (Science, <br /> • Technology,Engineering,and Mathematics) related. Kids get to come in <br /> and explore. The library provides some suggestion cards but it is mostly <br /> imagination based. Staff noted GRRL has two new coding kits and a <br /> Coda pillar. Commissioner Eberley asked how the library is advertising <br /> these programs. Ms. Schake reviewed some marketing tactics, such as <br /> fliers,website,posters, Facebook etc.As far as teens and tweens go,they <br /> had about 500 entries in the Harry Potter trivia contest. <br /> ■ The new library cards have been released. The two top winners are from <br /> Elk River.The new cards are $1 to replace if patrons want to give up <br /> their old bar code. <br /> 5.9 GRRL Trustee Report <br /> There was no report <br /> 6. Adjournment <br /> Moved by Commissioner Keifenheim and seconded by Commissioner Dreissig to <br /> adjourn the meeting. Motion carried 5-0.
