Canvassing Board to read and sign the Oath of Office.
2. Adopt, by motion, a resolution approving the abstract of votes cast for Elk River municipal races.

Background/Discussion
Per state law, the Council acting as the city’s Canvassing Board, is required to canvass the returns and
declare results for the general election. Attached is an abstract of the votes cast for Elk River’s 8
precincts. The abstract will become the official results once approved and signed by the Board. Elk River
voter turnout was 73%.

A candidate is required to request a recount in writing. Recounts are either publicly funded or
discretionary. A losing candidate may request a publicly funded recount of the votes cast if the difference
between the votes cast for that candidate and the winning candidate is less than one-half of one percent
of the total votes if there are more than 400 but less than 50,000 votes cast for the office. If a recount is
requested for the Councilmember Ward 1 race, it would be publicly funded. The losing candidate must
file the request by 5:00 p.m. of the seventh day after the canvassing of the election.

Races on the ballot include:
Mayor
Councilmember Ward 1
Councilmember Ward 4
City Question

Financial Impact
N/A

Attachments
Write-ins (Names that aren’t legitimate are not counted.
