2019 Park Improvement Fund Descriptions <br />October 03,2018 <br />PIF projects for 2019 <br />These projects were discussed at a Parks and Recreation Commission work session on September 12, <br />2018. <br />Houlton Restoration—$10,000 <br />This is a required local contribution to the FMR for restoration grants to restore native prairie/oak savanna <br />to the agricultural fields. 168 acres of agricultural fields and adjacent grassland areas will be restored to a <br />mixed height mesic native prairie. <br />Lions John Weicht Park Master Plan—$15,000 <br />These funds will be utilized to develop a park master plan for Lions John Weicht Park. A design team <br />will be hired to work with the Commission to develop a master plan for the park for future <br />redevelopment. <br />Sport Court Resurfacing—$50,000 <br />These funds will be utilized to resurface several tennis and basketball courts throughout the park system. <br />Tennis and basketball resurfacing is required approximately every seven years to maintain the court <br />surface and protect it from damage during the freeze thaw cycle. Parks to be included in resurfacing in <br />2019 include Barrington Park(1/2 court basketball),Country Crossing Park(full court basketball),Lions <br />John Weicht Park(full court basketball),Fresno Park(full court basketball),and Deerfield Hill Park(1/2 <br />court basketball). <br />Woodland Trails Regional Park Grant—$387,000($25,000 grant match,$362,000 grant funds) <br />This is a grant match for a grant request submitted to the Greater Minnesota Regional Parks and Trails <br />Commission. In 2017 staff submitted a grant request in the amount of$362,000 to the GMRPTC for <br />Phase I development of Woodland Trails Regional Park. Projects included in this funding application <br />included construction of a children's nature play area,a medium size picnic shelter,trailhead <br />improvements and wayfmding signage, invasive species management,and upgrades to the biathlon range <br />to create a multipurpose archery and biathlon facility. <br />Woodland Trails Regional Park Design Services—$40,000 <br />Design and engineering costs associated with the WTRP Phase I Development Grant cannot be utilized as <br />matching funds for the grant nor can grant dollars be utilized to pay for these services. These funds will <br />be utilized to hire a design firm to work with the WTRP Grant Committee to develop concepts for the <br />facilities that are part of the grant program, complete fmal design and engineering drawings,and bid these <br />projects.
