GREAT RIVER REGIONAL LIBRARY- Exolore. Learn. Connect.
Paton Services Supervisor Report
To: Elk River Library Board
CC: Robbie Schake,LSC
From: Brandi Canter, Lead Patron Services Supervisor
Date: September 12,2018
GRRL Is Awarded LSTA Grant
We are excited to announce that this week Great River received the LSTA grant award notice from
State Library Services. While the final agreement still needs to be signed, GRRL will be receiving the full
amount we applied for-$89,653-to support the Breaking Down the Barriers to Family Literacy
project. It is a many-pronged project and will allow us to expand our services to English language
learners, adults who need digital literacy skills, and daycare providers. We will be offering digital
literacy classes,Conversation Circles, and family literacy programs. We'll share more information as the
project unfolds.
GRRL Collection Development Announces $1k Mini-Grants
At our fall Regional Staff Meeting,Collection Development(CD)Coordinator Jami Trenam announced
some exciting news. The CD department receives 60%of GRRL fundraising dollars for the collection,
and as a result of our fundraising success Jami is embarking on some new, local initiatives. The Mini-
Grants will be available for each library, and will enable LSCs like Robbie to work with regional staff to
purchase additional items to enhance local collections—books, DVDs,fiction,non-fiction,adult and
juvenile materials. Items purchased this way will still be available to GRRL patrons throughout the
region, but they will "come home"to the branch where they were purchased.
GRRL Gears Up for Fines Forgiveness
By the time of the Elk River Board meeting,GRRL will have successfully completed its first Fines
Forgiveness program. We're very excited about inviting people back to the library with a clean slate.
The project is happening due to the generosity of our Board of Directors, and we couldn't be happier!
BRARY
