Elk River
Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
TO: FROM:
ERMU Commission Tom Sagstetter—Conservation&Key Accounts Manager
MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
August 14, 2018 6.1f
SUBJECT:
Staff Update
ACTION REQUESTED:
None
DISCUSSION:
• ERMU staff participated in Night to Unite with the City by attending 11 of the registered
events. The bucket truck and Eddy the EV were a hit. The bucket truck was able to
provide assistance at one event by holding a piñata from the boom for a party that didn't
have any trees to hang it in.
• The commercial rebate programs were closed in July. The residential programs will
continue through the end of the year. The estimated energy savings for 2018 is 3,275,000
kWh at this point. The energy savings goal for 2018 of 2,800,000 kWh. There will be
additional savings from the residential programs. ERMU issued rebate checks to over 40
businesses in 2018.
• In the last month, as of June 30, the level two charger downtown had 3 sessions, and
provided customers with 16 kWh of green energy. The new charger in the ERMU/City
Hall parking lot had 7 sessions and provided customers with 90 kWh of green energy.
The DC fast charger at the Coborn's fuel station has had 6 sessions and provided 81 kWh
of green energy to customers.
• ERMU staff provided a rebate check for$14,000 to CAER Food Shelf. The rebate helped
offset some of the costs of upgrading to a more efficient centralized HVAC system. This
rebate is part of the conservation improvement programs ERMU offers that target low-
income individuals or organizations.
• ERMU staff participated in the Sherburne County Parade with a bucket truck and Eddy
the EV. Although we did not win the best float designation, the themed decorations and
music we played were a real hit. There were even a number of spectators that enjoyed the
music so much that they broke out in dance. A few spectators made comments about how
quiet the EV was. There were also additional comments on the cool color and wrap that
our EV was sporting.
• ERMU and the City have been getting recognized statewide and nationally for the EV
initiatives that have been implemented. The Minnesota Municipal Utilities Association
(MMUA) Resource had two articles that focused on electric vehicles: "Elk River moves
to ride electric vehicle wave of the future", and the other on ERMU's fleet assessment
and partnership with Energy City. The American Public Power Association(APPA)
published a story on "Understanding how EV drivers make decisions about charging".
This article focused on finding the optimal locations for public charging stations and the
Page 1 of 2
181
