Return Air Systems. <br />Please confirm as to whether detectors are required/provided within the return air system. <br /> <br /> Return Air Systems. Smoke detectors shall be installed in return air systems with a <br />design capacity greater than 2,000 cfm (or if it is a common supply air and return air <br />system greater than 2,000 cfm), in the return air duct or plenum upstream of any filters, <br />exhaust air connections, outdoor air connections, or decontamination equipment and <br />appliances (unless the exception applies). [IMC 606.2.1] <br />o Exception: Smoke detectors are not required in the return air system where all <br />portions of the building served by the air distribution system are protected by area <br />smoke detectors connected to a fire alarm system in accordance with the MSFC. <br />The area smoke detection system shall comply with IMC Section 606.4. <br /> <br />6. Enclosed Parking Garages. <br />Confirm CO and NO2 detection and ventilation requirements. Please address. <br /> <br /> Enclosed Parking Garages. Mechanical ventilation systems shall operate automatically <br />upon detection of certain gas concentrations. If the parking garage will house vehicles <br />that emit carbon monoxide (CO), the parking garage must be equipped with a CO <br />detection device that will trigger the mechanical system to operate automatically upon <br />detection of a CO level of 25 parts per million (ppm). If the parking garage will house <br />vehicles that emit nitrogen dioxide (NO2), the parking garage shall be equipped with a <br />NO2 detection device that triggers the mechanical system to operate automatically upon <br />detection of a NO2 level of 3 ppm. If the parking garage will house vehicles that emit <br />both CO and NO2, the parking garage shall be equipped with both types of detection <br />devices. [MR 1346.0404.1] <br /> Minimum Exhaust. The mechanical ventilation system shall be capable of producing a <br />minimum exhaust rate of 0.75 cfm per square foot of floor area. [MR 1346.0404.1] <br /> <br /> <br />(MOE) Exiting Comments: <br /> <br />1. Means of Egress Illumination and Exit signs. <br />When two exits are required from a room or space, exit signs and means of egress illumination <br />(interior and exterior) are required at each exit. Exterior exit illumination must be interconnected <br />with the required emergency power backup system as part of the required exit discharge system. <br />Please confirm the required locations of exit signs and means of egress illumination.
