From: Fischer, Suzanne M.
Sent: Thursday, April 19, 2018 12:47 PM
To: 'Tom.pawelk@ci.monticello.mn.us' (Parks Superintendent)
Subject: Fishing piers/docks
1. Seasonal docks installed and removed each spring&fall;leave the spud posts in year round.
Works best with 3-4 staff(with life)ackets). Install/removal takes 1-2 hours each time.
2. What equipment is used to transport? Boats, trailer? You need large loaders or a small crane
and a boat with a high power motor to float it down for installs/removals.
3. Where is it stored? On the shore; secured with log chains to a tree.
4. Is it ADA accessible—Yes (required by state &Federal laws).
5. Do you allow people to fish off of it? Off the fishing pier but some also fish on the boating
dock. However, the boating dock has railings and people have climbed through them to get
on dock and ended up getting cut and bloody.
6. How much is budgeted for maintenance and operations? Spring through fall staff time and
plan for replacement parts. Tree damage hitting docks can be expensive. They had a willow
tree float down and smash into one of their docks.
7. What are challenges for ops and maintenance? Kids have carved on the railings/graffiti;
they need to be inspected daily (including weekends) due to the accumulation of debris.
8. Where was it purchased and who paid for it? Purchased from Minncor Industries by the
city. Standard docks have — 6week lead time;you'd have to ask about custom designs.
9. Did installation of the dock affect any liability/insurance issues? Insurance doesn't cover
them unless you specifically add them to your policy.
10. Other pertinent info: Docks are good for lakes; can be challenging on rivers—it all depends
on the location. The flow and debris in the area by Rivers Edge Park probably isn't the best
choice. Minncore now offers Float Protectors which allow the boat dock to bounce up &
down with currents;their fishing pier does not have them and it doesn't function as well.
