The Buffaloes hockey team rolled into Fremont Thursday night.
The Buffs, with 21 players, two coaches, and around 10 family members,
booked seven rooms at the Clarion Inn.
Along with seven other college teams competing in the Pacific Regional
Playoffs at Sidner Ice Arena Friday and Saturday, Sidner officials estimated at
least 300 people stayed in local hotels over the weekend, not to mention
University of Nebraska fans who traveled for the games, but may not have
spent the night.
The Clarion alone filled around 20 rooms with hockey players and fans.
"On average," said Evan Schinasi, director of hockey and ice activities at
Sidner, "their roster is going to be 24 or 25 players, a couple coaches and then
parents and maybe some extra team staff."
While tournaments pay a fee to use the arena, the real financial impact is in the
community, he said.
