Memo to Steering Committee Page 3
July 6, 1995
• current zoning which would allow multi-family housing to be constructed,
to some alternative that will either be more compatible with the
surrounding or adjacent land uses and/or provide a more appropriate mix
of land use opportunities.
• Housing Maintenance Code - The Fire Chief and Building and Zoning
Administrator are working on a housing maintenance code. The code is
designed to provide minimum standards relating to public health, welfare
and safety for all rental/multi-family units. The code also has provisions
for aesthetic and appearance improvements to maintain property values
and a visual quality for the area.
It is expected that this maintenance code will be administered in
conjunction with various crime prevention programs the Police
Department is exploring. These two programs will strengthen the
quality, integrity and safety of the City's multi-family developments.
• Future Urban Service Area - Depending upon where the ultimate urban
service area is defined, one issue that will need to be resolved is to
establish a minimum lot size within the ultimate urban service area
which is large enough to preserve the planned extension of sewer and
water in a cost effective manner as areas develop eastward. This may be
• accomplished by rezoning all of the residential land within the ultimate
service area to A-1, maintaining the 10 acre minimum lot size. The
committee may wish to give some attention to this issue at the Thursday
meeting.
ATTACHMENTS
• Exhibit A - 2/9/95 Steering Committee Packet.
• Exhibit B - Information on cluster developments.
• Exhibit C - History of ten acre minimum lot size.
• Exhibit D - Article on housing and an excerpt on managing growth
S
s:planning:sc:7--8memo
