CALL TO ACTION -- OPPORTUNITIES FOR PUBLIC SECTOR <br /> PARTICIPATION <br /> • Public sector willingness to assemble land on behalf of developers; <br /> willingness to absorb some redevelopment costs - recognizing the <br /> value of a vibrant CBD <br /> ♦ However, public dollars not repaid or left on the table should <br /> not place a burden on the taxpayers. <br /> • Commitment must be long term. <br /> • Financial pockets should be deep enough to ensure a long term <br /> commitment. <br /> • The City Council must identify revenue sources if it agrees that: <br /> ♦ Reinvestment in the CBD is a high priority; <br /> ♦ Reinvestment in the CBD contributes to the City's overall <br /> vitality; <br /> • ♦ Reinvestment is necessary because of the extraordinary costs <br /> of undertaking redevelopment projects; <br /> ♦ Similar projects will occur elsewhere unless public funds <br /> encourage projects in the CBD. <br /> • <br />
