Ocial/Ait,t)
fereloil SHERBURNE COUNTY TREE BOARD
6 6 26401 - 180th Street
Big Lake, MN 55309
Firoxs°
(612) 263-8522
4111
take suppression efforts this summer. There would be 3 components with controlling the oak wilt.
One, have a vibratory plow do the necessary root severing to control underground spread; two,
remove dead and infectious oak trees to prevent overland spread; and three, cut all trees down to
the control line to minimize "line jumps". If control efforts are not taken, all oaks within 1/2 mile are
jeopardized and have increased risk of getting oak wild. Ideally, this area could be situated where a
street could go thru. If this is possible and planned, recommendation is to still do the control work
and isolate the infection center. If you would like to plan control work or would like further details on
what is involved, please notify me at 263-8522. A cost-share program in Sherburne County is
available which will pay for 50% of control costs.
Because of the correlation with new oak wilt being associated with new development, steps to
prevent oak wilt during development is important. Ideally, all cutting, removal, or disturbance around
the oak should be avoided from mid-April to early July. If work must be done during these months,
cotractorsand sub-contractors should have some tree paint and cover all open wounds on oak as
, occur.
Thank you for contacting us and please call if you have any questions.
0
