GENERAL PRIORITY AREAS
Alw
The following general priority areas are proposed:
1. Athletic Complexes
- The acquisition and development of land for community athletic
fields is the highest priority area for the parks and recreation
program.
The participation in youth soccer, softball and baseball is
growing and there is shortage of available facilities to
accommodate the growth.
- Land areas that do not have significant natural vegetation and
that are not burdened with urban service assessments should be
considered.
- Other land areas that have appropriate topography and soil
conditions, that are easily accessible and that do not present
potential conflicts with residential areas should also be
considered.
- The potential for a joint effort between the city and the School
District to develop additional athletic complexes should be
pursued.
- Since youth athletic activities draw from the entire#728 School
District, fair participation in the development of athletic
complexes by all communities within the district should be
pursued.
2. Trails
Extensive trail development is proposed to meet the demand
reflected by the community survey. Walking trails, bicycle
trails and nature trails are a high priority.
- The development of the railroad corridor for hiking/biking
trails and cross-country ski trails is high priority.
- The development of internal park trails, particularly in
Hillside Park, is a high priority.
•
110
