INFORMATION <br /> ity ofMEMORANDUM <br /> lk • <br /> River TO: Planning Commission Members <br /> FROM: Stephen Rohlf, Building and <br /> Zoning Administrator <br /> DATE: November 30, 1995 <br /> SUBJECT: City Wide Gravel Mining Update <br /> In May of 1994, the City of Elk River completed an Environmental Impact <br /> Statement (EIS) on mineral excavation, city wide. At the time there were <br /> nine mineral excavation companies that owned or leased approximately 2,500 <br /> acres within the city limits. The property owned or leased by these <br /> companies was incorporated within the mining district boundaries for the <br /> purpose of the Environmental Impact Statement. <br /> As part of the environmental impact statement, the gravel mining companies <br /> • agreed to get all permits (federal, state and city, including conditional use <br /> permits) up to date. On the attached map, the areas denoted as active gravel <br /> mines are required to have conditional use permits. <br /> The following is a summary of the conditional use permit status of all the <br /> active mines: <br /> 1. Barton Sand and Gravel-Current <br /> - East side of Proctor Avenue, CUP approved on November 3, 1980, for <br /> twenty years. <br /> - West side of Proctor Avenue, CUP approved on March 16, 1992 <br /> 2. Baurerly Brothers-Current <br /> - CUP approved August 20, 1990 <br /> 3. Elk River Bituminous-Current <br /> - CUP approved May 21, 1984, for twenty years <br /> • <br /> 13065 Orono Parkway • P.O.
