Tree preservation steps.
The development has some rolling hills and some steep slopes which can often cause
problems when trying to prevent construction damage to trees. The south and southwest portion
of the development appears to be the healthiest and should have the most attention given to it for
protecting trees. Some things to keep in mind.
-use protective tree barrier fencing (especially near high valve trees)to prevent wounding, soil
compaction, grade changes near trunks, and other site disturbances to tree(s).
-if tree removal is necessary, save groupings of trees rather than individual ones
• -promote species diversity-this development consists primarily of red oak, white and bur oak,
and aspen; however maple, ash, elm, cherry, boxelder, and cedar are also present
-when choosing which trees to save consider placement of overhead and underground
utilities(going to house and along street) and their proximity to the trees drip line
-young, small trees survive site disturbance better than old, large trees
-save the best; remove damaged, declining, stressed, arid diseased trees
-for the small lots proposed on this development; consider saving groups of trees between
every other house
If you have any questions or need assistance on any of the above matters, please call me at 263-
8522. Thank you.
Sincerely,
rTh 2"2.3" .
Tim Fdgeton
County Forest Resource Specialist
Sherburne County Tree Board
o
