<br /> <br />*Item 3.4.* <br /> <br />MEMORANDUM <br /> <br />TO: <br /> <br />Mayor and City Council <br /> <br />FROM: <br /> <br />Stephen RoWf, Building and Environmental Administrator <br /> <br />DATE: <br /> <br />April 11, 2005 <br /> <br />~f2- <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Environmental Intern <br /> <br />The City Council authorized staff to hire an Environmental Intern during Environmental <br />Technician Rebecca Haug's maternity leave. Under the direct supervision of the Building and <br />Environmental Administrator, the intern will help with such tasks as: Refuse Hauler Licenses, <br />recycling rebates, Oak Wilt Suppression Program, Street Disruption Permits, archaeology tours, <br />enforcement of the Wetland Conservation Act, Floodplain and Shoreland rules, Mineral Excavation <br />Licenses and the administration of the city's permits for NRG, GRE and the Elk River Landfill. <br />The intern may also get involved in erosion control and NPDES permits, but the Engineering <br />Department will take the lead in this area during Mrs. Haug's absence. <br /> <br />Staff is recommending Mara Anderson be hired as an Environmental Intern at $10 fhour. <br />The internship will expire no later than August 19, 2005. Ms. Anderson is a graduate of Elk <br />River Senior High School and will be receiving a Bachelor of Environmental Design/Landscape <br />Architecture degree from the University of Minnesota in May of 2005. <br /> <br />Due to her remaining class schedule, Ms. Anderson will work part time until May 17. Part-time will <br />actually work out well because her first duty with the city will be training under the tutelage of Mrs. <br />Haug in preparation of her leave. Mrs. Haug's due date is May 1. She will also be available for <br />questions via e-mail and phone during her absence. <br />
