Economic Development Authority Minutes Page 2 February 20, 2018 ----------------------------- 6.1 Youth Skills Training Program Ms. Othoudt reviewed a PowerPoint presentation on the Youth Skills Training Program. Commissioner Wagner questioned if it would be advantageous for the Economic Development Authority to send a letter of support to the school district prior to their completion of the grant application. Ms. Othoudt indicated staff could draft a letter and bring back at the next EDA meeting. The EDA concurred. Commissioner Provo questioned if the EDA would market this program to local businesses. Ms. Othoudt explained economic development staff would partner with the school to assist in jump-starting and marketing the program. 6.2 Business Incubation Program Ms. Othoudt presented her staff report. President Tveite felt the program is a good opportunity for businesses and worth researching further. Commissioner Olsen stated he supports the program. Commissioner Provo liked the idea of starting small with the program and seeing how it goes and making adjustments and tailoring for Elk River as needed. Commissioner Wagner questioned if staff was thinking of an initial investment similar to Stewartville of $30,000. Ms. Othoudt indicated staff will research. Discussion took place on benefits of the program and whether it would fill a local need. Consensus was for staff to bring back additional information, including the target audience. 6.3 Director’s Report Ms. Othoudt presented her Director’s Report. 7. Other Business There was no other business. 8. Adjournment There being no further business, President Tveite adjourned the meeting of the Elk River Economic Development Authority at 6:05 p.m.
