Call Special City Council Meetings <br /> <br />COUNCILMBMDR DOBIL MOVED TO CALL '!'WO SPECIAL MEETINGS: ONE FOR JANUARY <br />17, 1989, A JOINT MEETING WITH THE PLANNING COMMISSION FOR THE PURPOSE OF <br />LANDFILL ASH DISPOSAL.. INFORMATION AT . SALK JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL, AND A <br />SPECIAL MEETING TO BE HELD ON JANUARY 30, 1989, AT 7:00 P.M. AT ELK RIVER <br />CITY HALL. COUNCILMlMBER.. KROPUENSKE SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION <br />CARRIED 5-0. <br /> <br />6.10.Discussion Regarding Commissions/Board Appointments <br /> <br />The Council discussed the manner in which people are appointed to boards <br />and commissions. It was noted that during the past few years the City <br />has had many more applicants than positions available. Counci1member <br />Holmgren suggested enlarging the Recreation Board. Councilmember Schuldt <br />stated that sometimes a larger board or commission can be more <br />cumbersome. Mayor Tra11e indicated that he is committed to getting as <br />many people involved in the community as possible. <br /> <br />LIBRARY BOARD <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />Mayor Tra11e stated that there were three vacancies on the Library Board. <br />Ellie Kretch and Vicki Sullivan's terms have expired and each have <br />expressed an interest in reappointment. Liz Kremer has resigned from the <br />Library Board. <br /> <br />Mayor Tra11e indicated that Dr. David Flannery and Mr. Ken Ringsted from <br />Big Lake have indicated that they are interested in the position. <br /> <br />COUNCILMEMBER DOBEL MOVED TO REAPPOINT ELLIE KRETCH AND VICK SULLIVAN TO <br />THE LIBRARY BOARD FOR A THREE YEAR TERM, WITH BOTH TERMS EXPIRING ON <br />DECEMBER 31, 1991. COUNCILMEMBER HOLMGREN SECONDED THE MOTION. THE <br />MOTION CARRIED 5-0. <br /> <br />COUNCILMEMBER SCHULDT MOVED TO APPOINT DR. DAVID FLANNERY TO THE <br />LIBRARY BOARD TO FILL LIZ KREMER'S TERM, EXPIRING DECEMBER 31, 1989. <br />COUNCILMEMBER HOLMGREN SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION CARRIED 5-0. <br /> <br />Recreation Board <br /> <br />Mayor Tra11e stated that <br />board with 3 vacancies. <br />terms have all expired <br />reappointed. <br /> <br />the Elk River Recreation Board is a 7 member <br />Mike O'Brien, Rolfe Anderson and Todd Mixer's <br />and each has expressed an interest in being <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />Mayor Tra11e indicated that Barb Northway and Gary Olson have submitted <br />letters of interest for serving on either the Recreation Board or the <br />Planning Commission. Counci1member Holmgren indicated that he would like <br />to see the Recreation Board expanded. He indicated that Barb Northway <br />would be a very valuable member on the board as she has a background in <br />recreation. <br />
