RecYclin~ Update <br /> <br />The City Administrator reviewed the recycling update memo from the <br />Recycling Coordinator, Gary Schmitz. He informed the Council that the <br />Ci ty will have a booth at the Business Expo which will center on <br />recycling. Discussion was held by the Council regarding the fact that <br />open burning of garbage is not permitted within the City of Elk River <br />and it was suggested that a news release be sent to the public <br />informing them of this information. <br /> <br />Councilmember Schuldt discussed the procedure that will take place for <br />switching garbage containers and garbage haulers and also questioned <br />how residents will be informed of the procedure to choose their size of <br />container. The City Administrator informed the Council that the <br />garbage haulers will be informing the residents of the switch and that <br />the residents will have a choice in the size of containers after the <br />first month of issuance. <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />Councilmember Schuldt stated that he had some concerns regarding yard <br />waste. He suggested the possibility of the City setting up a leaf <br />shredder and having a leaf disposal day for City residents. He <br />indicated that he had contacted Councilmember Dobel and that <br />Councilmember Dobel had informed him that shredded leaves would be a <br />good fertilizer for farm land. The Council also discussed the <br />possibility of having a Christmas tree drop-off day in the winter. It <br />was suggested that this idea be checked into and that an article be <br />placed in the newsletter regarding this Christmas tree/wood chipper <br />concept. <br /> <br />5.3 <br /> <br />One Ton Pick-Up <br /> <br />The City Administrator stated that the Council had recently awarded a <br />bid to Saxon Motors for a one ton Chevrolet pick-up for the Elk River <br />Fire Department. Saxon Motors has recently informed the City that <br />their dealer misread the" vehicle specification chart and they cannot <br />meet the specs. The Ci ty Administrator requested that the Council <br />consider awarding the bid to Elk River Ford. <br /> <br />COUNCILMEMBER HOLMGREN MOVED TO ACCEPT THE BID FROM ELK RIVER FORD IN <br />THE AMOUNT OF $15,812 FOR A ONE TON PICK-UP. COUNCILMEMBER KROPUENSKE <br />SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION CARRIED 4-0. <br /> <br />5.4 Council Meetin~ Schedul~ <br /> <br />The City Council discussed the Council meeting schedule through the end <br />of the year. <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />COUNCILMEMBER HOLMGREN MOVED TO SCHEDULE A BOARD OF CANVASS MEETING ON <br />NOVEMBER 8, AT 6:30 P.M. COUNCILMEMBER KROPUENSKE SECONDED THE <br />MOTION. THE MOTION CARRIED 4-0. <br /> <br />COUNCILMEMBER KROPUENSKE MOVED TO CALL AN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT <br />AUTHORITY MEETING ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 5, AT 6:30 P.M. AT THE ELK RIVER <br />
