<br />City of Elk River <br />2004 Annual Report <br /> <br />2005 GOALS & PROJECTS <br /> <br />STREETS <br />Maintain streets and storm water infrastructure to a high level of serviceability in a cost <br />effective manner. <br />Task <br />· Concentrate on preventative maintenance programs such as crackfilling, <br />sealcoating, cold mill patches, and radiant patches. <br />· Relocate and expand to compost collection facility. <br />· Update the Street Department facility with a new salt storage shed, cold <br />storage building, and tempered equipment building. <br />· Have streets cleared after a 6-inch snowfall in 10 hours of plowing time. <br /> <br />EQUIPMENT SERVICES <br />Maintain city equipment and vehicles for the maximum usage and reliability at an <br />affordable cost. <br />Task <br />· Continue training and educational seminars for mechanics. <br />· Provide updated tools and equipment for mechanics. <br />· Purchase software for truck system diagnostics. <br /> <br />BUILDING MAINTENANCE <br />Maintain city buildings so they are economical to operate, functional and pleasant for the <br />occupants. <br />Task <br />· Expand the cleaning program to include all city buildings. <br />· Staff the Custodial Department so there is opportunity to do occasional cleaning <br />"extras." <br /> <br />EMPLOYEES <br />Maintain an adequate well-trained work force. <br />Task <br />· Consider hiring an additional plow driver when another 12 miles of new <br />streets have been accepted for city maintenance. <br /> <br />EQUIPMENT <br />Continue to update equipment fleet so we can provide timely and reliable service. <br />
