Strikethroughs to be removed <br />Underlines to be added <br />Last Updated March 2014 <br />Steep slope means land where agricultural activity or development is either not recommended or <br />described as poorly suited due to slope steepness and the site's soil characteristics, as mapped and <br />described in available county soil surveys or other technical reports, unless appropriate design and <br />construction techniques and farming practices are used in accordance with the provisions of article <br />VI, division 12, of this chapter. Where specific information is not available, steep slopes are lands <br />having slopes over 12 percent, as measured over horizontal distances of 50 feet or more, that are not <br />bluffs. <br />Storefront means that portion of the facade from the sidewalk to the head of the entrance door. <br />Story means that portion of the building included between the surface of any floor and the <br />surface of the next floor above it or, if there is no floor above it, the space between the floor and the <br />ceiling next above it. <br />Storage tank means any one of a combination of tanks, including underground pipes connected <br />thereto, which is used to contain an accumulation of regulated substances. <br /> <br />Streets and alleys: <br />Alley means a public right-of-way which is used primarily for secondary vehicular service <br />access to the back or the side of properties abutting on a street. <br />Arterial street means a street or highway with access restrictions designed to carry large <br />volumes of traffic between various sectors of the city or county and beyond. <br />Collector street means a street which carries traffic from minor streets to arterials. <br />Cul-de-sac means a minor street with only one outlet and having an appropriate turnaround <br />for the safe and convenient reversal of traffic movement. <br />Marginal access street means a minor street which is parallel and adjacent to an arterial street <br />and which provides access to abutting properties and protection from through traffic. <br />Minor street means a street of limited continuity which is used primarily for access to <br />abutting properties. <br />Private street means a street serving as vehicular access to two or more parcels of land which <br />is not dedicated to the public but is owned and maintained by one or more private parties. <br />Street means a public right-of-way accepted, or a private right-of-way approved by public <br />authority pursuant to the requirements set forth for private streets under division 3 of article V of <br />this chapter, which provides a legal primary means of public access to abutting property. The term <br />"street" includes the term "highway," "thoroughfare," "arterial," "parkway," "collector," "avenue," <br />"drive," "circle," "road," "boulevard" or any other similar term describing an entity complying with <br />the requirements set forth in this definition. <br />Street, arterial means a street or highway with access restrictions designed to carry large volumes <br />of traffic between various sectors of the city or county and beyond. <br />Street, collector means a street which carries traffic from minor streets to arterials. <br />Street, marginal access means a minor street which is parallel and adjacent to an arterial street and <br />which provides access to abutting properties and protection from through traffic. <br />Street, minor means a street of limited continuity which is used primarily for access to abutting <br />properties.
