<br />Request for Action <br /> <br /> <br />To Item Number <br />Economic Development Authority 6.7 <br />Agenda Section Meeting Date Prepared by <br />General Business January 16, 2018 Amanda Othoudt, EDD <br />Item Description Reviewed by <br />Consideration of Staff Assignments Cal Portner, City Administrator <br />Reviewed by <br /> <br /> <br />Action Requested <br />Provide direction and confirm priorities relating to Economic Development Activities for 2018. <br /> <br />Background/Discussion <br />The EDA Bylaws, as part of the Annual meeting, suggest that the EDA consider assigning staff projects <br />for the year. The City of Elk River utilizes the adopted City Council Vision and Goals, the adopted <br />Economic Development Strategic Plan, as well as the Mississippi Connections Plan and budget <br />performance measures to structure the annual work plan. <br /> <br />The EDA reviewed these goals and performance measures during the July 17, 2017, budget workshop <br />and approved them on August 21, 2017. Based on these documents, staff’s priorities will be: <br /> Contact and network directly with real estate developers, and target industry decision makers. <br /> Grow and maintain an inventory of private and public properties available for future <br />development. <br /> Establish a wetland bank to facilitate new development where wetlands impede growth. <br /> Maximize and leverage state, regional and local financial incentives to enhance economic <br />development. <br /> Continue to participate in the Department of Employment and Economic Development’s <br />Positively Minnesota Marketing program. <br /> Celebrate and grow our existing businesses by conducting 24 BR&E visits in 2018. <br /> Market the city of Elk River as a destination. <br /> <br />In addition to these published priorities, the EDA approved the strategic plan in the second quarter of <br />2015. <br /> <br />Financial Impact <br />N/A <br /> <br />Attachments <br /> 2018 Adopted Budget Goals and Performance Measures <br /> <br /> <br />The Elk River Vision <br />A welcoming community with revolutionary and spirited resourcefulness, exceptional <br />service, and community engagement that encourages and inspires prosperity <br />
