Background/Discussion The Southeast Sherburne County Transportation Committee is comprised of city, county and Elk River Chamber of Commerce officials. The committee has met on multiple occasions with Senator Kiffineyer and Representative Zerwas to discuss the transportation needs of our area. The Committee is recommending two projects be submitted for funding consideration through the State of Minnesota Corridors of Commerce program. The project will improve safety and traffic flow in Elk River by eliminating the existing stop lights on TH169/101 from the Mississippi River north through the city. Understanding the substantial cost of such a project, the committee supports completing the initial phase, to include a redesigned interchange at TH10 and creation of overpasses at Main Street and School Street, as an increment toward the full vision. Financial Impact Should this project be awarded funding through the Corridors of Commerce program,it is expected to come with a required local match. It is premature to understand the level of match required of the city and Sherburne County. Preliminary estimates put the local participation in the 15% range.
