Elk River
Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
TO: FROM:
ERMU Commission Mike Tietz—Technical Services Superintendent
MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
January 9, 2018 6.1d
SUBJECT:
Staff Update
ACTION REQUESTED:
None
DISCUSSION:
• In December, The Locating department had a total of 99 locate tickets consisting of seven
emergency tickets, 3 cancellations, 3 meetings, 67 normal tickets and 14 updated tickets.
This is a 62%decrease in volume of tickets from the previous month. The locators have
successfully transitioned to gathering GPS points daily since the middle of December.
• Electric Technicians continue with updating power bill, substation checks, disconnects,
reconnects, dealing with meter and off-peak issues, as well as installing new meters for
commercial customers. Staff also assisted SPX personnel with the installation of the load
tap changer(LTC) filter assembly on Waco Bank#2 during the last week of December.
• I attended the Minnesota Municipal Utilities Association (MMUA)Technical &
Operations Conference December 6-8 in St. Cloud, MN. The conference was very
informative and I learned a great deal about Cyber Attacks and Active Threats in the
Workplace. I truly appreciate the opportunity to attend.
• Staff began weekly meter reading the last week of December and continues to perform
meter audits around the system as time allows. Metering department staff has completed
the reprogramming of demand meters with the appropriate billing cycle. I anticipate the
completion of reprogramming non-demand meters by the 3`d week of January.
• The power plant staff did the monthly engine run on December 21St. All engines were run
with the exception of engine #4. There appears to be a malfunction of the governor on
this unit. Staff will investigate this further as time permits.
• Mapping department continues to enter GPS points and attribute points for all of our
systems assets within the ESRI ArcView GIS system. CAD maps have also been recently
updated for field staff use. Staff evaluated two GPS units in December and recommended
the purchase of the Trimble units.
81
