December 18, 2017 DcC ' 8 Food Truck Survey- Elk River Responses by Frank and Jody Galli, owners of Pompeii Pizzeria 1. Yes, varied experiences in terms of quality and value. 2. Many experiences including a food truck festival at Mystic Lake Casino, Lupulin Tap Room in Big Lake, Indeed Brewing Mpls, Jody used to work in downtown Mpls with food trucks available. 3. We are NOT in favor of food trucks in Elk River. 4. We are NOT in favor of food trucks in DOWNTOWN Elk River. Food Trucks take business from locally owned and operated NON FRANCHISE businesses. These businesses are a huge ASSET to the local community. Efforts should be made to preserve this local asset. When your family and friends visit from out of town, its nice to have a locally owned restaurant to show them. Especially 7 days a week and 359+ days a year. 5. Food trucks are mobile and so are their customers. 6. Elk River has so few NON FRANCHISE restaurants. Food trucks wont help them. It is much harder to attract independent restaurants to Elk River than food trucks. 7. The primary special events in downtown Elk River are the Thursday Night Concert Series and the Thursday Farmers Market. Both events are enhanced by parking for their patrons. The farmers market occupies the public lot with booths and exhibitor parking. The farmers market set up starts by noon and teardown goes until 730 PM. Limited parking has a negative affect on our restaurant during the farmers market. Food Trucks in downtown Elk River during the farmers market would only compound a difficult parking situation. 8. We think Aegir is a great addition to downtown Elk River. Tap rooms are typically located in an industrial area like Lupulin in Big Lake, without restaurants in close proximity. If Aegir's success was dependent on food trucks, why did they locate in downtown Elk River with 5 existing long term restaurants? Does Aegir dislike the current downtown Elk River restaurants? I think it would be SAD to see a food truck parked between the Sunshine Depot and Daddios, or any where in downtown Elk River. Lets patronize the restaurants that got us here, not park food trucks in front of them. The local restaurant serves the community all year long. 9. The Thursday night concert series is a focal point for the community. The concerts showcase Elk River to the world, like no other local event.
