EOty1� ,.,�� Request for Action <br /> River <br /> To Item Number <br /> Mayor and City Council 4.6 <br /> Agenda Section Meeting Date Prepared by <br /> Work Session January 3, 2018 City Clerk,Tina Allard <br /> Item Description Reviewed by <br /> Appoint Weed Inspector -City Administrator, Cal Portner <br /> Reviewed by <br /> Action Requested <br /> Appoint,by motion, the environmental administrator position indefinitely as the assistant weed <br /> inspector. <br /> Background/Discussion <br /> Per state law,MN Statute Chapter 18, the mayor is designated as the city's official weed inspector and the <br /> city may appoint assistant weed inspectors. <br /> In the past, the city has made these appointments annually or to coincide with the mayor's term. This <br /> appointment is not required by statute on an annual basis. Therefore, staff recommends appointing the <br /> position of the environmental administrator as assistant weed inspector. This position would have the <br /> same authority and responsibility as the mayor in the capacity of weed inspector. <br /> Local weed inspectors examine areas of the city for compliance with state laws regarding the eradication <br /> of noxious weeds.
