<br />Request for Action <br /> <br /> <br />To Item Number <br />Mayor and City Council 10.1 <br />Agenda Section Meeting Date Prepared by <br />Work Session November 6, 2017 Cal Portner, City Administrator <br />Item Description Reviewed by <br />YMCA Senior Services <br />Reviewed by <br /> <br /> <br />Action Requested <br />Discuss and prepare to provide direction for Elk River Senior Activity Programming Services <br /> <br />Background/Discussion <br />Following the failure of a citywide referendum to finance a multipurpose community facility last <br />November, the Council directed staff to continue the second option for an ice arena improvement and to <br />initiate discussions with Elk River YMCA officials regarding opportunities to move city senior <br />programming services to the YMCA. <br /> <br />The Mayor, Council Member Wagner, and staff met with YMCA Executive Director Molly Hanson <br />YMCA and ER YMCA Community Board Member Tim Dolan to better understand opportunities. <br /> <br />Since that time, YMCA officials have had internal conversations and had conversations with Y Board <br />officials regarding building expansion to meet needs of Elk River Seniors currently fulfilled at the Activity <br />Center. <br /> <br />The Activity Center is in need of substantial improvements to maintain operations and continues to be <br />the most expensive programmed recreation facility in our inventory for the General Fund.
