<br />Request for Action <br /> <br /> <br />To Item Number <br />Mayor and City Council 7.1 <br />Agenda Section Meeting Date Prepared by <br />Public Hearings November 6, 2017 Justin Femrite, P.E., City Engineer <br />Item Description Reviewed by <br />ADA Transition Plan Public Hearing for Review Cal Portner, City Administrator <br />and Comment <br />Reviewed by <br /> <br /> <br />Action Requested <br />Open a public hearing and accept public comment on the ADA Transition Plan. <br /> <br />Background/Discussion <br />The City of Elk River is currently conducting a self-evaluation of its facilities within public rights-of-way <br />and has developed this Americans with Disability Act (ADA) Transition Plan consistent with federal <br />requirements. A transition plan is required for public agencies that solicit federal funding for trail and <br />sidewalk facilities. An ADA transition plan details agencies current services, policies, and practices to <br />ensure persons with disabilities are protected from discrimination on the basis of a disability. <br /> <br />The ADA transition plan includes a self-evaluation of all sidewalks and pedestrian ramps and details the <br />city’s intension to upgrade these facilities to meet ADA standards in an orderly process.
