Memorandum

ITEM #6.6.

-(I

To:

Mayor and City Council
Thomas D. Zerw-as, Chief of Police ~... .
September 22, 1999 U

l

.
ElI{

From:

Date:

Police Department

Subject: AUTHORIZATION TO HIRE
COPS FAST OFFICER

As part of the year 2000 budget process, I had asked for authorization
to fill our last remaining COPS FAST grant position. I am of the
understanding that this request has been tentatively approved.

One (1) of our police reserve officers has recently completed the
necessary training and is eligible to be hired as a police officer. In
fact, he w-as offered ajob w-ith the Minnesota State Patrol in the past
w-eek and turned it doW"D because he is hoping to get hired by the Elk
River Police Department.

I am, therefore, requesting authorization to elevate Stephen Sarazin
from the position of police reserve officer to a full-time police officer
position. This w-ould be contingent on Stephen successfully
completing all aspects of the selection process.

.

I believe that Stephen w-ould be an excellent addition to our full-time
ranks and hope this request is approved. If you have any questions,
please give me a call.

TDZ/kma

.

13065 Orono Parkway. P.O. Box 723. Elk River, MN 55330. (612) 441-2324.
