Peterson Star Tribune Staff Writer Todd and Linda Knudson remember when Otsego was sur- rounded by working farms and open countryside dotted with homes in a few widely scattered developments. That was 12 years ago, when .. the Knudsons built their split, level house. Now Otsego,like its better-mown neighbors Rogers and Alb~rtville, is booming, with single-family and townhouse de- velopments sprouting throughout the 34-square-mile town. Mike Robinson, Otsego's city adminis- trqtor, estimated that .the popula- tion has jumped from about 6,400 in 2000 to about 10,000 today. The rebuilding of nearby Inter- state Hwy. 94 means Otsego is a 35- to 40-minute drive north from Minneapolis, and that's encourag- ing even more interest in the area, said Stacey and pavid G~ist of Real Estate Express ,in Rogers. David Geist, who's been seU~ ing homes in the area for about 12 years, said a lot of homes were built in Otsego in 2001-2002, after the city loosened acreage require- ments and started switchi,ng to city water and sewer.
