Earl Childhood Screening Is <br />'INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT 728 Y 9 <br />EA <br />���/ an opportunity for children and <br />SCREENING their parents to participate in a <br />free health and developmental <br />Greening after their 3rd birthday. State law requires screening for all <br />hildren entering public school Kindergarten, ideally at age 3. <br />VHO NEEDS TO BE SCREENED? <br />II children living in District 728 who are 3, 4, or 5 years old and are not <br />urrently enrolled in Kindergarten need to participate in this free screening <br />rogram before entering Kindergarten, or have an equivalent screening from a <br />octor. Children who attend Head Start or Early Childhood Special Education <br />ervices programs may not have to participate in Early Childhood Screening. <br />1EASONS TO SCREEN AT AGE 3 <br />Screening assists your child to be ready for Kindergarten. <br />>> Health and developmental problemslconcems can be identified earlier <br />and help provided sooner; families may be referred to community <br />health and educational services including School Readiness <br />Preschool and ECFE. <br />Screening is free, easy and good for your child. <br />WHAT HAPPENS DURING SCREENING AND WHAT DOES <br />IT INCLUDE? <br />The parent attends the entire screening process with their child. The <br />screening appointment includes a speech and developmental progress <br />review by a screening specialist and a review of your child's vision, <br />hearing, height, weight and immunization history with a health professional. <br />The parentis will participate in a family factors interview to review the <br />screening process and talk about any concerns they may have, and finish <br />with a summary interview. <br />IS SCREENING REQUIRED? <br />Minnesota state law requires that your child must be screened for <br />enrollment in a public school. Children are not permitted to enter public <br />school without having Early Childhood Screening and up-to-date <br />immunizations. If you are planning to send your child to private or home <br />school, the screening is not required by law; however, we still encourage <br />you to participate.
