44.I am not employed because I retired in Aug 2015, but am a very active biker. Though we do
not have young children, we have grandchildren that live with us so I answered the school
bus question in the survey. I bike 3-5 times per week from April through September. About
once in 2 weeks I ride to Zimmerman and back along Hwy 1 shoulder (with my eyes glued
constantly to a rear view mirror). I may start biking in the winter as well if I get a Fat Bike.
We've lived here for 22 years and I worked in New Brighton until retirement.
To get to the closest trail, I must cross the RR tracks before getting to the first part of the
bike/walk trail that runs parallel to Meadowvale. It stops about a quarter mile before
reaching Hwy 1. There is not enough shoulder on Meadowvale to safely bike so I usually
cross Meadowvale to the west where the trail ends and then pass through the community
streets to get to the Hwy 1 trail. At Hwy 1, I continue on the trail system that passes by the
golf course. At that point I connect to the Northern Trail system which is a nice system and
well maintained. It would be nice if the paved system continued a little further north. It
would meet up with a cross road about 1/2 mile north of where the paved trail stops. I have
explored nearly all of the side trail loops in this system. Its well done. Our family priorities
would be a bike/walk path (even wider shoulder) on Island View Drive that could connect
to the residential streets through a short path at the end of Island View. It would also be
nice to see the trail alongside Meadowvale continued to Hwy 1, and a trail along the entire
Meadowvale - Upland Ave streets leading to Hwy 10. Doing this would allow residents to
quite easily connect to the streets and sidewalks on the south side of Hwy 10. We've heard
that the new bridge work scheduled for Hwy 10 where it crosses Orono will include a
bike/walking trail. This will be nice.

45. Need to have more connectivity. We have plenty of sidewalks in the development but they
don't connect to too much. Would like to see sidewalk extended on Co Rd 12 at Nixon St
NW to Fillmore St and from Fillmore and Co Rd 12 to 175th Ave. Connectivity to other
developments is very important.

46. Would like to see more safe sidewalk/bike crossing to go east to west/ west to east across
highway 169. Also to be able to go from 169 across Highway 10 from Elk River to Otsego.

47. There is an incomplete section of a walking/biking path parallel to Co. Rd. 30 starting at
Troy St. eastward to Queen St. Can something be done to connect the two dead-end
points?

48. Bicycle riding should not be permitted on pedestrian sidewalks; too many near collisions.

49. Use of atv's and golf carts licensed to get around the city would be helpful.

50. Elk River should consider investing heavily into their trail system to connect the community,
it's neighborhoods, schools, and businesses. A developed trail system will increase the
overall health of Elk River's residents, reduce greenhouse emissions, and spark economic
activity. Additionally, trails are a great way to connect residents to their community adding
to the value of the city.

51. It would be beneficial and greatly rewarding to see a bike trail on the east side of town.
