Biosolids mass will increase at a rate of 0.65-0.85 lb per lb of CBODs removed <br />and up to 15 lb per lb of phosphorus removed. A significant portion of the metals in the leachate <br />will be removed as a precipitate and contained in the biosolids. Although landfill disposal is <br />proposed, metals concentrations should be monitored to ensure concentrations remain below <br />applicable limits should be facility choose to land apply biosolids. <br />4.7 Comparative Combined Treatment Faciltiies <br />Waste Management operates over 150 landfills with either direct connections or leachate <br />receiving at publically owned treatment works (POTWs). Activated sludge with chemical or <br />biological phosphorus removal is the most common method of treatment. Comparison of the Elk <br />River WWTF and four other facilities currently receiving leachate from other Waste <br />Management landfill are summarized below in Table 6.
