At their January 11, meeting, the Downtown River’s Edge group discussed the need for park benches, bike racks, and flower planters. Staff presented the group with several options and designs for benches and bike racks. The group came to a consensus that they would like four composite, renaissance-style, recycled material benches in 2017 and purchase six more benches at a later date. They also discussed replacing the two bike racks downtown with two art-inspired, brightly colored bike racks in addition to purchasing 4 more planters for the downtown area. At their February 15, meeting, staff presented estimates for the suggested downtown decorative park benches, bike racks and flower planters to the Downtown River’s Edge group. Estimates were obtained from Belson’s Outdoors in the amount of $6,827.72. The group came to a consensus to formally request that the Council approve the decorative fixtures at their next meeting. The HRA will consider allocating funds from their Downtown Plan Implementation fund identified within the Other Professional Services line item at their April meeting. Financial Impact In 2017, The HRA budgeted $20,000 for the implementation of the Downtown Plan in the Other Professional Services line item for the purchase of permanent downtown decorative fixtures. The purchase and ongoing maintenance of the downtown lights will draw from the General Fund.
