City Council Minutes
February 16, 1999

Page 8

e

order to comply with the new ordinance regulating parking and storage of large
commercial vehicles in residential areas. The applicant has roughly 2.7 acres of
land in the R1a district. The new ordinance requires a conditional use permit to
park and store semi-tractors and trailers on property with less than 5 acres in the
R 1 a zoning district.

Steve stated that presently, the applicant is storing personal equipment and
other items (lawn mowers, lawn furniture, snowmobiles, welding supplies etc.)
adjacent to the house and in the yard. The applicant is prepared to remove
unwanted debris to the city's spring clean-up, however, the city's code
compliance officer, would like the remaining items to be contained indoors in a
shed or garage.

Mayor Klinzing opened the public hearing.

I

Gordon Mire, 17753 Fillmore street, stated that he is happy to oblige in seeking a
conditional use permit for the parking of his semi-tractor, but fails to see the
problem with the personal equipment and other items being stored adjacent to
the house and in the yard. Mr. Mire indicated that he plans on removing debris in
the spring, and questioned if the construction of a lean-to may suffice for the
housing of his snowmobiles, lawn mowers, welding supplies, etc., as there have
been no nuisance complaints filed against him.

e

City A Horney Peter Beck explained that it is possible that outside storage is not
allowable use in that zone, and that it is not uncommon for a property to be
brought into compliance with the city ordinance when an applicant is seeking a
permit.

There being no further comments, Mayor Klinzing closed the public hearing.

COUNCILMEMBER FARBER MOVED TO CONTINUE THE REQUEST BY GORDON MIRE,
JR.
