Background/Discussion Through the use of the city asset management system, staff has identified stormwater ponds that have reached the limit of treatment effectiveness. The city is required to clean out stormwater ponds that have exceeded their treatment capacity in order to maintain compliance with the Minnesota Pollution Control's Municipal Separate Stormwater System Permit. The Lion's Park Pond was constructed in 1985 as a regional stormwater pond that collects pollutants and also reduces flooding for nearby infrastructure. At least two more phases of dredging will be needed for this 4.5 acre stormwater pond. This phase will cover 1.2 acres. Required sediment testing was conducted this last fall and showed the material in this portion of the pond did not exceed residential level 1 contamination. Staff estimated the need to remove approximately 3,872 cubic yards. If the bid is approved,we will work with the contractor to remove as much or as little sediment as necessary while staying within the allocated budget. This project was advertised on our city website and a formal public bid opening was held where two bids were received.
