Hazardous materials anticipated to be present on-site during construction are those normally
associated with the operation or maintenance of construction equipment including petroleum
products such as gasoline and other engine fluids. No other toxic or hazardous materials are
anticipated during construction. Temporary storage tanks for petroleum products may be located
at the project site for refueling construction equipment during construction activities. Appropriate
measures will be taken during construction to avoid spills that could contaminate soil,
groundwater and/or surface water in the area. In the event that a leak or spill occurs during
construction, appropriate action to remedy the situation will be taken immediately in accordance
with MPCA guidelines and regulations.
No above- or below -ground storage tanks are planned for permanent use in conjunction with
operation of the proposed project. The existing ERX facility maintains an above ground 1,000
gallon concrete vault diesel tank, which is below the 1,320 gallon threshold requirement for a
Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure Plan. Individual race teams are required to handle
their petroleum products while on-site and will be required to manage the use and disposal of
petroleum products in an appropriate manner.
In the event of a leak or spill occurring during an off-road truck race event, appropriate response
action will be initiated immediately in accordance with MPCA guidelines and regulations.
d. Project related generation/storage of hazardous wastes - Describe hazardous wastes
generated/stored during construction and/or operation of the project. Indicate method of
disposal. Discuss potential environmental effects from hazardous waste handling, storage,
and disposal. Identify measures to avoid, minimize or mitigate adverse effects from the
generation/storage of hazardous waste including source reduction and recycling.
There are no plans for hazardous waste to be generated or stored during construction or during
operation of this project.
13. Fish, wildlife, plant communities, and sensitive ecological resources (rare features):
a. Describe fish and wildlife resources as well as habitats and vegetation on or in near the site.
The project site is located on land containing forest, brush land, grassland and wetlands which
serve as habitat for wildlife communities. The project site has a history of disturbance and
exploratory investigations for gravel mining. The dominant land cover type in the vicinity of the
project area is gravel mining, forested land and low density residential land.
The forested, brush, grass and wetland areas on the project site likely serve as habitat for
amphibians, birds, small mammals, and rodents. The forested areas within the project site are part
of a larger contiguous patch of forest habitat that intermixes with wetland complexes south and
east of the project site. The area adjacent to the north includes ongoing, active sand and gravel
extraction activities.
Page 16
