ITY, (63) "+22-0442 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2000- 85 <br />NORTHSTAR CORRIDOR DEVELOPMENT AVTHORITY <br />ADY ANCED CORRIDOR STUDY <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />'WHEREAS, the Northstaf Commuter Rail Development Authority (NCDA) is a multi- <br />jurisdictionaljoint powers entity empowered to study multi-modal transportation systems in Hennepin. <br />Anoka, Benton, and Sherburne Counties; <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the NCDA is proposing an 80 mile commuter rail (tixed transit-way) system <br />extending from St. Cloud to downtown Minneapolis in conjunction with other transportation system <br />improvements ; <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the proposed commuter rail system will utilize the existing tracks of the <br />Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad; <br /> <br />'WHEREAS, the City of Anoka fully supports the efforts of the Northstar Corridor <br />Development Authority (NCDA) [Q plan for and implement commuter rail transit and other forms of <br />dedicated transit ways to enhance travel alternatives for Anoka and regional residents. employees and <br />visitors; <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the NCDA has determined that a Commuter Rail Station Stop would be <br />appropriately located within the City limits of Anoka, Minnesota near the intersection of the BNSF <br />Railroad and Fourth Avenue North; <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Minnesota State Statute Section 174.86 requires cities to review and comment <br />on the proposed location and design of commuter rail stations as depicted in "Adv:mced Corridor <br />Plans" ; <br /> <br />'WHEREAS, the City of Anoka received a request to complete the statutory defi.ned process <br />via a letter dated August 4, 2000 signed by the Commissioner of the Minnesota Deparnnent of <br />Transportation (MnDOT) and the Northstar Corridor Development Authority Chairperson: <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Northstar Corridor Development Authority (NCDA) conducted its statutory <br />required public hearing on the "Advanced Corridor Plans" on September 7,2000; <br /> <br />'WHEREAS, the statute requires the City to complete its review within 45 days of said <br />hearing by the NCDA; <br /> <br />'WHEREAS, the Planning Commission held a public meeting to revie\v the "Advanced <br />Corridor Plans" on October 3, 2000; <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Planning Commission commented favorably on the Advanced Corridor <br /> <br />Plans; <br /> <br />. 'WHEREAS, the Commuter Rail Station location within the City of Anoka is in a partially <br />developed urban neighborhood within close proximity to the core dowmown area of the City and within <br />walking distance to the North IYktro Regional Treatment Center providing for a high population and <br />employment density; <br /> <br />- AN' EQUAL OPPORTUNITY E~IPLOYER- <br />,Q <br />
