Here is a summary of <br />the information we discussed with her: <br />To put up an enforceable sign, an ordinance would need to be passed by the City Council that <br />restricts truck movements on that roadway. Formally these type of signs are referred to as Selective <br />Exclusion Signs. Before passing an ordinance and installing one, we would need to consider and <br />clarify the restriction. <br />A "no through trucks" sign (not a standard sign but one that could be manufactured) would not <br />restrict the trucks which are causing the most concern for Paul. These are trucks who's drivers are <br />following their GPS to a destination which they feel is a block away from where they made their <br />turn on to 175"' off of Twin Lakes Road. In that case, they would be considered local deliveries and <br />difficult to sight for a violation of the ordinance and sign message which restricts through <br />movements. <br />If we were to consider a "No Trucks" sign (115-2 as identified in the MMUTCD manual) it would be <br />easier to enforce but this might restrict more vehicles than desired. By formal statute definition it <br />would restrict delivery truck like UPS, FedEX, etc. Ultimate enforcement would come down to the <br />police department needing to provide surveillance and patrol of the area. <br />We understand the areas served off of 175"' Avenue and Fillmore Street is residential but they are <br />public roadways that are built to support the legal axel weight of trucks. While trucks do cause more <br />deterioration on our roadways than regular passenger cars, we don't have special restrictions for <br />them anywhere else on our network. In speaking with the Chief of Police staff would not <br />recommend passing an ordinance restricting the truck movements on these segments. <br />The main problem in this situation involves lost truck drivers. We believe continued work with <br />Sportech and their vendors delivery companies might be the best option. Staff has already reached <br />out to and communicated errors in the GPS companies mapping. They have since made changes in <br />their system but are unsure how long it might take for their customers to make the updates on their <br />end. <br />Thank you, <br />Justin Femrite P.E.
