Open lvuke <br /> <br />No one appeared for Open Mike. <br /> <br />6.1. <br /> <br />Appointment of Acting Mayor <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />City Clerk Joan Schmidt stated that Section 2-54 of the Elk River Code requires the City <br />Council to appoint an Acting Mayor to perform the duties of the Mayor during a disability <br />or absence of the Mayor from the city, or in the case of a vacaAcy in the office of Mayor, <br />until a successor has been appointed and qualified. Ms. Schmidt stated that although all <br />Councilmembers are eligible for this appointment at any time, it has been past practice to <br />rotate this position. <br /> <br />Mayor Klinzing stated that based on the rotation, it would be Councilmember Dietz's turn <br />to be appointed Acting Mayor. <br /> <br />MOVED BY COUNCILMEMBER FARBER AND SECONDED BY <br />COUNCILMEMBER GUMPHREY TO APPOINTCOUNCILMEMBER DIETZ <br />AS ACTING MAYOR FOR 2005. MOTION CARRIED 5-0. <br /> <br />6.2. Appointment of Council Liaisons to Advisory Boards I Commissions <br /> <br />City Clerk Joan Schmidt stated that at the August 9, 2004 City Council meeting, each <br />Councilmember was appointed to one of the city's advisory boards/commissions. Ms. <br />Schmidt indicated that these appointments need to be revisited due to vacancies created by <br />former Councilmembers Kuester and Tveite. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Mayor Klinzing indicated that the Council may wish to appoint the two new <br />Councilmembers to the vacant seats or they may wish to appoint each Councih11ember to a <br />new board/ commission. Councilmembers Dietz and Motin both indicated that their <br />preference would be to remain as liaisons on their previously appointed <br />boards/ commisslOns. <br />
