Request for Action

To
Mayor and City Council
Item Number
10.3
Agenda Section
Work Session
Meeting Date
October 3, 2016
Prepared by
Tim Sevcik, Parks Superintendent
Item Description
Rivers Edge Commons Park Construction
Electrical Upgrade
Reviewed by
Cal Portner, City Administrator
Reviewed by

Action Requested
Discuss Rivers Edge Commons Park electrical upgrades and provide staff direction.

Background/Discussion
During the April 4, 2016, Council meeting, Council awarded the bid to Sunram Construction for the
expansion of Rivers Edge Commons Park including the base bid and selected alternate. An alternate for
electrical upgrades in the park was declined and direction was given to staff to work with Elk River
Municipal Utilities to determine if they could conduct the work.

After discussing the electrical upgrades with ERMU, it was determined that they could perform much of
the work on the project, however due to their fall schedule they would not be able to conduct this work
until after 2016. Staff, at the request of ERMU, worked with Sunram Construction to obtain a bid for
installing conduit for the future electrical upgrades and received a quote of $4,000. Currently there is
$14,975 remaining in contingency funds for this project.

Financial Impact
There is no impact to the city General Fund; $4,000 of contingency funds from this project would be
utilized.

Attachments
Electrical New Layout Plan
